On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, UIT will add a “Manage UMail aliases” tab in the University of Utah IT security settings portal (login required). A UMail alias is the personalized form of a default UMail address (e.g., uNID@utah.edu), which typically takes the format “firstname.lastname@utah.edu.”
The “Manage UMail aliases” tab will allow users to:
- Create a new alias (available combinations will be listed in a dropdown menu)
- Change a primary alias (active aliases will be listed in a dropdown menu)
- Disable an existing alias (active aliases will be listed in a dropdown menu)
- Delete an alias (active aliases will listed in a dropdown menu)
- Please note that deleting a UMail alias is a permanent action that cannot be undone
Please visit this IT Knowledge Base article for additional information.
The U of U IT security settings portal allows users to manage several password- and authentication-related functions, which can also be accessed via the “Password & Security Settings” tile in Campus Information Services (CIS).
Note: Nid Tools, which allows users to view and customize settings for uNID-based accounts, will be decommissioned at a future date.
