VPCAT Distinguished Lecture Series on Mentorship: Inaugural Lecture Celebrating a Decade of Investing in What Matters


The Vice President’s Clinical and Translational (VPCAT) Research Scholars Program invites you to the first in a new series of lectures on academic mentorship.

The VPCAT Distinguished Lecture Series on Mentorship will bring the finest and most diversified guest speakers to the University of Utah up to three times each year to provide our academic community with national perspectives on academic mentorship from those who have demonstrated a passion for, and notable achievements in, scientific and career mentoring of trainees and faculty. The inaugural lecture in the series will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in EHSEB 1750, and will be presented by Carrie L. Byington, MD.

Dr. Byington is Special Advisor for Health Security for the University of California Office of the President and is Emeritus Executive Vice President for the University of California Health. She is a Professor of Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases at UCSF and UC San Diego and is formerly of the University of Utah, where among numerous other accomplishments founded the VPCAT Research Scholars Program in 2013. She is a translational scientist and has mentored more than 100 students, trainees, and faculty members, the majority from backgrounds under-represented in medicine. Her presentation, VPCAT: Celebrating a Decade of Investing in What Matters, is sure to inspire.
