U of U has teamed with Hill AFB to establish the Aerospace Scholars Program


Apply to the Aerospace Scholars Program to build a career aimed at pioneering the next generation of air and space travel, defense, cybersecurity, software development, and much more! This unique program offers ambitious students the opportunity to combine University of Utah scholarships with hands-on internships at Hill AFB. Immerse yourself in cutting-edge aerospace technology and leadership training while completing your degree. Within the program, you will join a cohort of like-minded students and faculty who are already working to shape our aerospace-enhanced future.

Students at any point in the curriculum and in the Price College of Engineering at the University of Utah may apply. Students in all engineering departments may apply and highly encouraged are students from Mechanical Engineering, School of Computing, and Electrical and Computer Engineering.  Successful applicants will be linked with an existing Hill AFB internship and the Utah College of Engineering staff will assist with supplemental scholarships. Once accepted, students can remain in the program for the entirety of their education, without any need to reapply on a yearly basis. 

Brief description of Hill AFB internships: 

  • Many current internship positions are available in the Software Engineering Group website. This group employs student interns in the areas of Computer Scientists, Computer Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.  
  • The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) has open internships related to the engineering and maintenance of A-10, F-16, F-22, F-35, Munitions, Communications, and Training Aircraft. This group employs student interns in the areas of Electrical Engineers, Aerospace Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Computer Engineers, and Safety Engineers. 
  • The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC). This group employs student interns in the areas of Materials Engineers, Nuclear Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Civil Engineers. 
  • Others include Operations Engineers and System Engineers in more focused application areas.
