The Post Advocating for Research Across Utah

Advocating for Research Across Utah

In June, I joined President Randall, Bob Carter, and other senior leaders on a multi-day tour through southern Utah. We met with sister institutions, community leaders, and state partners to continue vital conversations about how research, education, and innovation can strengthen every region of the state.

We listened. We engaged. And we made the case: research isn’t abstract — it’s a direct investment in Utah’s future. From rural healthcare and workforce development to energy, water, and public education, the University of Utah is tackling the real-world problems that matter most to Utahns.

As the state’s flagship research institution, we exist to find science-based, technology-driven, and human solutions that improve lives — across every zip code in our state.

In a time of shifting federal priorities, this kind of visible, collaborative leadership is critical. We are working to ensure that the value of research is understood, supported, and shared —in Washington, and in every corner of Utah.

What are we doing to help?

We’re deepening partnerships across Utah and maintaining a visible presence on the national stage — ensuring that our research strengths inform key conversations with community leaders, state partners, federal agencies, and national associations.

In the coming weeks, I will join national research leaders and policy advisors to help shape the future of research integrity, federal support, and innovation policy — keeping Utah research at the forefront where it belongs.

How can you be involved?

Keep pushing forward — through proposals, partnerships, and storytelling. When your work is seen and understood, it strengthens our collective voice in policy and funding conversations.

  • Join our ongoing federal funding Town Halls and Q&As to stay informed and engaged

Together, we’re shaping a future where Utah research leads — and lasts.
