AWS Research Days

Date & Time: Wednesday, May 27, 2026
8:30
Location: Research Park, 303 Chipeta Way, Salt Lake City
Cost: Free

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) Research Security Office invites you to a two-day, in-person workshop this May, hosted in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and designed for the University of Utah research community.

This workshop will focus on a practical question many researchers are facing: how to move sensitive or regulated research forward—without slowing down innovation.

You’ll learn how secure cloud environments can support work involving regulated or restricted data (such as CUI, PHI, export-controlled, or sponsor-governed data) while enabling collaboration, advanced analytics, and AI-driven research workflows. The sessions will also introduce the VPR Secure Research Environment and how it supports compliant, scalable research aligned with frameworks such as NIST, HIPAA, FISMA, and CMMC.

What to expect:

Day 1: Overview of secure cloud fundamentals, research use cases, and live demonstrations of AWS tools

Day 2: Hands-on training with cloud platforms supporting secure, collaborative, and data-intensive research (laptop required)

The workshop includes interactive sessions led by cloud experts and experienced researchers, with opportunities to explore AI-enabled tools for data analysis, workflow automation, and secure collaboration.

This event is appropriate for all experience levels—whether you are new to cloud computing or looking to expand your secure research capabilities.

There is no cost to attend; however, space is limited. Please RSVP by May 15 to reserve your spot. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided. Attendees should bring a laptop for Day 2.
