Major research funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, have redoubled efforts to safeguard the nature’s research enterprise and reduce risk from cyber-attack and foreign influence.
To enhance research security, funding agencies have established new training requirements for university faculty, staff, and students engaged in sponsored research (e.g., NOT-OD-25-154). In response to this and other training needs, the University of Utah’s Office of Research Education (REd) offers timely content on research security and responsible research through self-paced learning, such as RED 367 (Research Security), and face-to-face classes, including the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) certificate series.
For graduate students, REd offers a 1-hour, for-credit class (MBIOL 7570) as a block course two times each semester. Facutly, staff, and students participating in federally sponsored research should plan to complete one of these trainings in alignment with the new requirements.
