NIH Issues Interim Guidance Following Federal Shutdown

NIH has released interim guidance outlining how it will reopen extramural activities following the recent federal funding lapse. All October and November grant application due dates will be rescheduled, with new deadlines announced in an upcoming Notice. Peer review and council meetings originally scheduled between October 1–November 14 have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

The eRA system stayed open during the shutdown; any RPPRs, FFRs, or other submissions made during this period require no additional action unless NIH contacts you. eRA is working through a backlog of help-desk tickets and response times may be delayed.

We will continue monitoring NIH communications and will share updates—particularly once new submission deadlines and review schedules are released. If you are preparing an NIH application, we encourage you to stay aware of the shifting timelines and reach out to OSP if you need support at ospawards@osp.utah.edu.

Read the notice.
