AME Lab Releases The Faculty Guide to DoW Research Funding

""

""The Applied Medical & Engineering Lab has released a Faculty Guide to Department of War Research Funding. The guide is meant to help researchers navigate the funding opportunities, culture, and application process that the DoW has to offer.

The DoW is the largest government agency with a substantial research budget, and funds projects across nearly every academic discipline, including national security, the health of service members, intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and energy technology.

With many opportunities for funding, the faculty guide emphasizes that DoW culture is mission-driven, interested in concrete deliverables, and relationship-focused. The guide also addresses myths and concerns researchers might have while considering collaboration with the DoW having to do with what kinds of research and in what stage of research funding becomes available.

The Faculty Guide to DoW Research Funding makes clear to researchers that much of the DoW’s research is unclassified research with few publication restrictions, and that many organizations within the department have additional programs with funding opportunities. The guide is a practical starting point for understanding how DoW funding works, from agency structure, working with program officers, and understanding the application process.
