There’s a special kind of momentum across our campus right now. Even through a year of transition and a government shutdown, our research community kept showing up, staying curious, and submitting bold proposals that move knowledge forward and serve our state. That commitment is visible in rising proposals and awards this year, and even more in the daily work happening in labs, clinics, field stations, studios, and classrooms across Utah. 

Last year alone, university research activity supported more than 12,700 jobs and generated $1.6B in statewide economic output. When Utah invests in research, opportunity ripples outward.

As we move forward and stay the course, we’re focused on clarity, collaboration, and support for our researchers. This year’s F&A Town Hall reinforced our commitment to transparency in how research infrastructure is funded and how we equip our campus for success. Thank you to everyone who contributed to that conversation; openness strengthens our culture and our outcomes. 

We also introduced the VPR Strategic Plan 2025–2030, which outlines our priorities: deepening interdisciplinary collaboration, expanding student research pathways, strengthening industry and federal partnerships, investing in research infrastructure, and accelerating translation and commercialization. These goals reflect where we are headed — together. 

Thank you for pushing forward, submitting ambitious proposals, and sustaining momentum through change and uncertainty. Your work expands opportunity, strengthens Utah, and positions the University of Utah to weather the storms and solve real-world challenges.
