The Post Chief of Staff Appointment: Allison Locatelli

Chief of Staff Appointment: Allison Locatelli

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is pleased to announce that Allison Locatelli has been named Chief of Staff. With more than eight years of leadership in HR and operations within the OVPR, Allison has been instrumental in shaping the people and culture that drive Utah’s research enterprise.

As the University of Utah’s research portfolio expands in scope and complexity, and as the OVPR becomes an enterprise research office for the institution, Allison’s role is evolving. In addition to leading HR, she will now support strategic initiatives that connect research to institutional priorities, strengthen coordination across units, and ensure our enterprise is aligned with state and national needs.

This appointment comes as the OVPR  launches its five-year strategic plan, advancing the University’s role as a leader in innovation, economic development, and public impact. As Chief of Staff, Allison will provide the operational focus and strategic perspective needed to help turn vision into action.

Allison’s Perspective

  • On stepping into the role: “What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to help the OVPR stay agile in a constantly changing landscape. Each new challenge is a chance to think strategically about how to adapt while keeping us on course toward long-term goals.”
  • On advancing the five-year plan: “I see my role as streamlining pathways so each pillar of the plan can succeed. With a clear view of both the destination and the many moving parts, I can help align people and processes to ensure progress continues without unnecessary barriers.”
  • On her proudest contributions: “I’m proud of building a strong, compassionate team that strives for excellence. Over the past eight years, we’ve strengthened our internal systems, and now we’re better positioned to engage externally and elevate the VPR’s impact.”
  • On her message to colleagues and faculty: “Our team is committed to serving the research community with thoughtfulness, accountability, and a focus on your success.”

“Allison exemplifies the kind of leadership that strengthens both people and strategy,” said Erin Rothwell, Vice President for Research.  “She brings the clarity, foresight, and steadiness that our growing research enterprise requires. As we launch our five-year strategic plan, her ability to connect people, streamline processes, and anticipate challenges will be essential in ensuring U research continues to deliver impact for our state and the nation.”

Please join us in congratulating Allison on this well-deserved recognition and expanded leadership role.
