All University of Utah students are invited for this 24-hour problem-solving competition. Come join a team, network with peers and experts, and get creative! FREE food and refreshments. Thousands of dollars in cash prizes awarded to the top ideas.


THE DETAILS

  • What:
    • The 24-hour climate solutions hackathon is a free event where students come together to brainstorm creative solutions for a specific problem.  This year's hackathon is targeting solutions to the complex challenge of WATER RESOURCES.
    • Fast-paced and team-driven.  Come out to network, enjoy some free meals and snacks, and deep dive into future solutions for preserving and protecting water resources.
    • Cash prizes!
      • $3,000 awarded to the first place team
      • $2,000 to the second team
      • $1,000 to the third team
  • When:
    • Friday, January 31st, 12:00 Noon, the 24-hour hackathon begins.
    • Saturday, February 1st, 12:00 Noon, the hackathon ends.
    • Saturday, February 1st, (12 to 1 PM), teams present their solutions to a panel of judges.
    • Monday, February 3, reception and awards ceremony for all participants.

  • Who:
    • All U undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to participate!
  • How: 
    • You may register as an individual or as a team. Teams must consist of 3-5 students. It is recommended that you form your team in advance. Invite your friends or connect with other participants.
    • No coding experience required!  Unlike most hackathons, our event is open to students of all skill levels and backgrounds from artists to engineers.  While friendly competition exists, the primary aim is to build skills and collaboration for all of attendees.
    • Teams are encouraged to come up with something original that no one has seen before. You might have a design idea, a financing idea, a start-up idea, a technology application, or a policy solution that will make a difference in one of five prompt categories.
