A Time for Dialogue and Imagination
I spent the summer traveling around Utah. I met with people in small towns and town halls. Those interactions taught me that Utahns have a deep love for two things: conversation and creativity.
Utahns love to talk. They will talk with you about family, the weather, politics, sports, best hiking spots, favorite diners, and everything in between. That passion for conversation is amplified by an equal desire for collegiality. A good conversation is one where two people genuinely listen to one another, even when they disagree.
That’s why I’m so excited that the University of Utah will be hosting a panel focused on learning to disagree better. On November 11th, 2025, four University of Utah faculty will present research on how we can disagree better. It’s a perfect fit for Utah, and a timely event for all of us.

One thing Utahns love to talk about is the future. How will Utah grow in the decades ahead? What will change? What impossible dreams will come to fruition? Will we have hover bikes? (I hope so)
That’s the driving question behind the Imagined Futures panel that we are hosting on November 13th, 2025. Three faculty will present their creative work that invites us to imagine new and unseen futures.

Universities are sandboxes for conversation and imagination. Here’s hoping you enjoy a bit of both this fall.
