2025-2025 VPR-Sponsored Internal Funding Calendar
Dear Colleagues,
The AVPR Office has launched the following FY26 VPR-sponsored internal funding programs.
The VPR Office will continue manage/conduct all programs listed below in FY26.
This list is not intended to be comprehensive. We may add to this list as new internal funding opportunities arise.
Below, you will find the funding mechanism type, a brief description of the mechanism purpose, and the FY26 deadline for the program.
Interested faculty can get a general idea of how a particular internal funding program functions by clicking on the Program Guidelines found here:https://www.research.utah.edu/funding/.

The Faculty Fellow Awards (FFA) provide a semester of full release time (from teaching and administrative tasks) at full salary to eligible faculty for scholarly or creative research projects. |

FFA applications are due on the first Thursday of October, annually. |

The Faculty Small Grant Program (FSGP) provides grants of up to $10,000 over 1 year to support scholarly publications and creative research. |

The Distinguished Research Award (DRA) is a prestigious faculty award designed to recognize outstanding achievements in research by three University of Utah faculty each year. |

DRA applications are due on the second Thursday of December, annually. |

The Research Instrumentation Fund (RIF) provides support to faculty and core facilities for new equipment purchases, or to replace/upgrade existing research equipment. Equipment purchased with RIF funds is meant to be shared as broadly as possible and should be used to facilitate externally funded research and scholarship. |

University of Utah Research Foundation Research Initiative (formerly seed grant) |
The University of Utah Research Foundation Research Initiative is an interdisciplinary research grant program that focuses on use-inspired outcomes that will address national priorities, global competitiveness and strong economic futures. Proposals must be aligned with one or more of the 24 emerging priority areas outlined in the VPR strategic plan. |
