Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
The Institutional Biosafety Committee is part of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety for the University of Utah. The committee reviews and approves research involving the use of recombinant DNA. If a study requires approval from the IBC as well as the IRB, an investigator must indicate in the IRB new study application that the study involves recombinant DNA and also complete the required paperwork for IBC review. Approval from IBC must be received before the IRB will give final approval.
