Procedures
REVIEW CATEGORIES
- CoI officer acts on behavior of CoI Committee based on established criteria
- CoI officer provides a summary report of Category I reviews to CoI Committee at monthly meeting for formal review and ratification
- cases that cannot be resolved by CoI officer are moved to Category II for review
- CoI officer forwards all other cases to CoI Committee chair for assignment to reviewers
- 2 reviewers (1st & 2nd readers) assigned by CoI Committee chair
- reviewers determine if more information is needed from discloser
- 1st reviewer works with discloser to obtain further information and develop management plan
- reviewers determine if case can be resolved at Category II or needs full Committee review (Category III) and communicates details of resolution to the CoI Officer
- CoI Officer prepares summary report for formal review and ratification at monthly CoI Committee meeting
- reviewers notify CoI Chair of cases than need to be classified as Category II reviews for discussion at monthly CoI meeting.
- cases that reviewers determine need full review by full Committee presented to Committee at monthly meeting; or,
- rapid response sub-committee of ~5 Committee members assigned by CoI Committee chair.
CRITERIA FOR CATEGORY I REVIEWS
- No conflict reported on form; OR
- Discloser has significant financial interest in a company that does or will do business with the University and files the standard Purchasing management plan; OR
- Discloser has stock in/is an officer of/is paid by a company whose business is related to the project that is the subject of the disclosure but is not funding the research nor has any claim to IP from the research; OR
- Discloser has stock/is an officer of/is paid by an established company that is funding the research. No human subjects are involved in the research; OR
- Discloser will buy goods/services project from a company in which s/he has a significant financial or other interest. If research, no human subjects are involved; OR
- Disclosure is very similar to an existing, approved disclosure, and the management plan would be the same.
